❄️ Refrigeration Estimating — Module 2
Cycle & Load Basics • BTUH • Sensible/Latent • TDs • Diversity
Overview
Translate heat loads into estimating assumptions that affect equipment counts, line sizes, and commissioning hours. Confirm design temps, ambient conditions, defrost methods, and usage profiles to avoid under/overstating your scope.
- Design Temps & TD: Box/case temps, coil TD, and space ambient drive BTUH.
- Load Drivers: Envelope, infiltration/door openings, product pull-down, people, lighting, defrost heat.
- Diversity: Not all circuits peak simultaneously—apply realistic factors to labor and power allowances.
Lesson Notes
- List Zones: Coolers, freezers, prep areas, specialty cases—capture design temps and duty cycles.
- Defrost Impact: Off-cycle vs electric vs hot gas affects BTUH and electrical placeholders.
- Ambient Assumptions: Roof equipment/utility rooms—note summer/winter design used by engineer.
- Estimating Links: Higher loads → larger pipe sizes, more fittings, more commissioning time.
