❄️ Refrigeration Estimating — Module 1
Fundamentals • Scope Types • CSI Divisions • Bid Forms
Overview
This module orients you to commercial refrigeration scope and how it appears in plans, specs, and bid packages. You’ll classify scope (reach-ins, walk-ins, distributed/centralized condensing), separate owner-furnished from installer-provided items, and map all work to CSI divisions so your bid form is complete.
- Scope Types: Reach-in cases, walk-in boxes, condensing units/racks, evaporators, controls, accessories.
- Deliverables: Complete bid form, clear inclusions/exclusions, and preliminary alternates/VE list.
- Docs to Read: Plan index, M/R sheets, equipment schedules, details/risers, addenda/RFIs.
Lesson Notes
- Package Anatomy: Case lineup drawings, walk-in kit sheets, equipment schedule (evaps/condensers), control diagram, risers, details.
- Responsibilities: Cases are often owner/vendor furnished; installer typically includes piping, insulation, supports, penetrations, testing, start-up assistance, and specified power/control terminations.
- Bid Form Structure: Group by assemblies (cases, walk-ins, line sets, controls, test/commission). Add allowances (crane, lifts, penetrations, patch/paint, waste/reclaim).
- Risk Flags: Roof penetrations, night/open-store work, long line sets & vertical lifts, A2L compliance, lead times, coordination windows.
