Use Article 220 for load calcs, Article 310 for ampacity tables. Confirm your edition/adoption.

Learning Objectives

  • Perform basic dwelling and small commercial load calculations (220).
  • Apply ampacity tables and correction factors (310) before selecting OCPD.
  • Estimate voltage drop and adjust conductor sizing accordingly.
  • Complete a mini capstone: layout + compliance check.

Tool — Dwelling Load Estimator (Prompt)

Study tool only. Apply the correct demand factors and rules in Article 220 for your project.

Navigation Tips

  • Work through Article 220 in order: general lighting → demand → fixed appliances → HVAC/water heating.
  • After VA → Amps (per voltage), go to 310 for conductor ampacity, then pick OCPD in 240.
  • If long runs, check voltage drop early to avoid rework.
