HVAC Phasing Best Practices

1. Pre-Construction
- Submit shop drawings, equipment submittals, and sequences early.
- Coordinate chases, access, penetrations.
- Order long-lead items like RTUs early.
2. Underground/Slab
- Install condensate piping and sleeves before slab pour.
- Coordinate with plumbing and electrical trenching.
3. Rough-In
- Install ductwork, refrigerant piping, and hangers.
- Top-down sequencing with MEP coordination.
4. Equipment Set
- Crane/set large RTUs, AHUs, and fans.
- Coordinate with electrical for power requirements.
5. Controls & Balancing
- Install thermostats, actuators, and control wiring.
- Review control sequence with GC and controls team.
6. Finish Phase
- Install diffusers and grilles after ceiling grid.
- Protect open duct from debris/damage.
7. Testing & Commissioning
- Perform test and balance (TAB).
- Commission system with owner rep and GC.
