๐ŸŽฏ Learning Objectives

  • Read and interpret a complete plan/spec set and build a defensible scope sheet.
  • Perform calibrated digital takeoffs (lighting, power, low-voltage) and export clean QTO.
  • Assemble a compliant estimate and proposal package aligned to bid instructions.
  • Analyze win/loss outcomes to improve pricing strategy, risk handling, and presentation.

โš™๏ธ Capstone Workflow (Follow These Steps)

  1. Set Up โ€” Create project folders; download latest plans/specs; record addenda.
  2. Scope Sheet โ€” Identify drawings/spec sections; summarize inclusions/exclusions; list alternates/allowances.
  3. Calibrate & Takeoff โ€” Layers for Lighting/Power/Low-Voltage; verify calibration on 2+ dims per sheet.
  4. QTO Export โ€” Export CSV with columns: Area, Item, Qty, Unit, Rev/Add, Notes.
  5. Quote Leveling โ€” Log lighting/switchgear/FA quotes; compare scope gaps, lead times, terms.
  6. Estimate Build โ€” DC โ†’ Contingency โ†’ Overhead โ†’ Profit (margin). Keep alternates separate.
  7. Proposal Package โ€” Cover letter, clarifications, bid form, alternates, unit prices, quote log.
  8. Submission & Log โ€” Email/portal as instructed; capture timestamp & confirmation.
  9. Post-Bid Review โ€” Do the quiz, self-assess using the rubric, and document lessons learned.

๐Ÿ“ˆ Win/Loss Analysis โ€” What We Learn

  • Winners: scope-complete, on-time, transparent risk handling, clean alternates, strong vendor coverage.
  • Non-winners: scope gaps (lighting controls/FA devices), incorrect addenda handling, messy unit prices, late submission.
  • Next time: earlier RFQs, better symbol audit, VE options tied to schedule risk, bolder clarifications.

๐Ÿง  Practice & Quiz (in ConstructIQ)

  1. Complete the takeoff and export your QTO CSV.
  2. Assemble the full proposal package and upload your PDFs.
  3. Take the case-study quiz to validate your approach and math.
  4. Submit your lessons learned summary.
