Minority contractors win less than 5% of construction dollars in the South.

It isn't talent. It isn't work ethic. It's access — to certifications, to bid lists, to estimating systems, and to the networks that make commercial and government work possible.

62%
Of minority-owned contractors are unaware of certifications they already qualify for.
3x
Higher win rate on government bids for properly certified MBE/DBE firms.
$0
What most contractors invest in education each year — while losing five-figure bids monthly.

You've been doing residential remodels and small commercial jobs. The work is honest, but the margins are thin and the clients are tired.

You hear about $2M school renovations, $5M municipal builds, GSA contracts — but the paperwork looks like a foreign language and the bid bonds feel impossible.

BuildSouth is the bridge. SF Johnson Consulting has guided contractors through this exact transition since 2010 — we're now focused on the Southern minority builders who need it most.

Is BuildSouth right for you?

We're not for everyone — and that's the point. Read this carefully.

This is for you if…

  • You're a minority-owned contractor in TX, LA, MS, AL, GA, FL, SC, NC, or TN.
  • You've been in business at least 12 months and have done residential or light commercial work.
  • You want to break into commercial, municipal, or federal contracts.
  • You're willing to put in 3–5 hours per week on growth.
  • You take feedback seriously and run a clean business.

This isn't for you if…

  • You want a get-rich-quick path or a magic government contract.
  • You're not licensed or insured in your trade.
  • You won't engage with the community or do the homework.
  • You expect us to find clients for you on day one.
  • You're not actually a contractor (sub trades welcome — but no brokers).

Three steps from application to your first commercial bid.

01

Apply & Onboard

Fill out a short application. We get on a 15-minute call to make sure you're a fit. Once accepted, you get same-week access to ConstructIQ™, the community, and your onboarding session with Stacey.

02

Build the Foundation

In your first 60 days, we map out which certifications you qualify for, get you registered on the right portals, and walk you through ConstructIQ™'s estimating system so your numbers can stand up to any prime contractor.

03

Bid, Win, Repeat

By month 3, you're identifying real opportunities. By month 6, you're submitting bids with our review behind them. Most members win their first commercial or government job inside 12 months.

Stacey F. Johnson, SCLA — Founder of S F Johnson Consulting

For 15 years I've helped contractors across all 50 states bid smarter, win bigger, and protect what they've earned. BuildSouth is where I focus that experience where it's needed most.

Since 2010 SCLA Credentialed All 50 States All Trades

Stacey F. Johnson is the founder of S F Johnson Consulting & Construction Services, advising contractors nationwide since 2010 on estimating, licensing, project management, and claims recovery.

As a credentialed Senior Claims Law Adjuster (SCLA), Stacey brings something almost no contractor coach can offer: the ability to protect and recover money on disputed change orders, builder's risk claims, and contract disputes. The adjuster is no longer the only expert in the room.

Through SF Johnson, Stacey has built ConstructIQ™, the License Hub, Takeoff Pro, the Intern Academy, and Claims Intelligence. BuildSouth is the focused application of all of it — for Southern minority contractors ready to grow.

Things you're wondering.

How is BuildSouth different from your other SF Johnson services?
SF Johnson offers individual services nationwide — estimating, licensing, training, claims. BuildSouth is a curated bundle of those services, plus a Southern-focused community and certification roadmap, delivered as a monthly membership for one transparent price. It's the right entry point if you want the full transformation, not just one service.
How do I pay?
All BuildSouth memberships are set up by invoice. Apply or contact us, we confirm fit on a short call, and we send you an invoice for your chosen tier. Access is granted within one business day of payment. Annual invoices include the two-month savings automatically.
I'm not certified yet. Can I still join?
Yes — most of our members aren't certified when they start. Helping you secure your first certification (MBE, DBE, 8(a), or HUBZone) is one of the first things we do together. You just need to be a legitimately operating contractor that meets the ownership requirements for one or more of those programs.
Do you actually find me jobs?
We don't hand you contracts on day one — anyone who promises that is misleading you. What we do is teach you where the opportunities live, help you get certified to access them, sharpen your bids before submission, and at the Inner Circle level, make direct introductions to general contractors and government buyers in our network.
How long until I see results?
Most members get certified inside 90–120 days and submit their first qualified commercial or government bid within 6 months. Winning your first major contract typically happens between months 6 and 12 — but every market and trade is different.
What trades do you work with?
General contractors, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, concrete, roofing, painting, drywall, framing, demolition, utilities, landscaping, and specialty trades. If you're in construction and you're operating legally, you're our audience.
I'm outside the Southern states — can I still join?
BuildSouth is regionally focused, but SF Johnson Consulting serves contractors in all 50 states. If you're outside the South, contact us and we'll either accept you into BuildSouth on a case-by-case basis or point you to the right individual SF Johnson service.
What about the 3-Day Bootcamp — how is that different from Inner Circle?
The Bootcamp is a one-time, intensive 1:1 deep dive with Stacey — three days fully focused on building your estimating system, plus a year of ConstructIQ access. Inner Circle is an ongoing 12-month relationship with weekly 1:1 calls and done-with-you bid support. Many members do both: Bootcamp to build the foundation, then Inner Circle to run the system over the long term.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Monthly memberships are month-to-month, no contracts. Annual memberships are non-refundable after 14 days. Founding member pricing is locked for life as long as your membership stays active.

The bids are out there. Go win them.

Join the only program built specifically for minority contractors in the Southern United States — backed by 15 years of SF Johnson advisory experience.
