Module 2: Scheduling & Procurement
HVAC Project Management Class – Intern Academy
Instructor: S.F. Johnson | Duration: 90 minutes
📘 Learning Objectives
- Understand the relationship between project scheduling and equipment/material procurement.
- Develop HVAC construction schedules aligned with key milestones and critical path items.
- Identify procurement challenges and how to address long lead items.
- Integrate submittals, approvals, and delivery into a proactive procurement plan.
📅 Part 1: Construction Scheduling for HVAC Projects
Key Concept: HVAC systems must align with structural, architectural, and electrical milestones. Delay in scheduling HVAC rough-ins can create major project bottlenecks.
- Overview of scheduling tools (Gantt charts, CPM, Microsoft Project, etc.)
- Breaking work into work packages (rough-in, equipment set, start-up)
- Defining critical path activities
- HVAC sequencing with framing, electrical, and fire sprinklers
📦 Part 2: Procurement Planning
- Submittal process and approvals
- Tracking long lead equipment (AHUs, RTUs, chillers, boilers)
- Vendor coordination and material release schedules
- Procurement logs and schedule integration
- Handling change orders that affect procurement
Pro Tip: Set up a “Procurement Milestone Tracker” to align PO release dates with install timelines. Always build in buffer time.
