Basic Plan Reading/Estimator Training

Plan Reading

We review a project from the ground up and analyze each sheet in detail. At the completion of the course, the student will understand what we mean when we say the 4 different views, how to navigate from one view to the next and why. We look at each sheet from the perspective of the contractor who needs that sheet. The student must pass each test with a grade of “B” or higher.

Estimator Training

This is a 5 week class that meets each week for 2 hours per class. All classes are private, live and on line.

We analyze the plans based on the trade and determine:

All take-off (measurement) information

All pricing related to the scope of work - The student will have full access to an 11 book cost book as part of the program

Detailed formatting of an Excel spreadsheet related to the scope of work.

Throughout the week, the student will have additional study materials and test to complete. Each week, the projects get more and more complex. The student much pass with a grade of “B” or higher.

In these series of classes, the student will learn how to complete a full material take off for his/her specific trade. We will show each student which sheets are needed to complete the take off and the techniques needed to take each measurement.

At the beginning of each session, each student is provided with a plan reading basics overview to ensure they are familiar with going from the plan view to the section view to the detail view. This technique is required to perform a proper and accurate material take off.

At the completion of this class, the student will be able to comprise a material list to provide to any material provider and to feel confident about the numbers provided.
